Assam is located in the north-east part of India. Geographically it is situated south of the eastern Himalayas along the Brahmaputra and Barack river valleys. Assam covers an area of 78,438 sq km.
Assam and Neighbouring states
The neighbouring states of Assam are Arunachal Pradesh to the north, Nagaland and Manipur to the east, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram to the south. West Bengal is neighbouring to the west through the Siliguri Corridor, a 22km narrow strip of land that connects the state to rest part of the country.

There are some neighbouring countries touching the Assam borders are Bhutan to the north and Bangladesh to the west. Dispur is the capital of Assam.
