Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas on the top of Jhandi Dhar, about 33Km north of the Almora town in the Uttarakhand state of India.
The sanctuary covers an area of around 45.59 sq. Km at a variable elevation of 900 to 2500 metres and an average height of 2412m above the sea level.
There is a place in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary called zero points from where one can see the Himalayan peaks like Kedarnath Peak, Shivling, Trisul and Nanda Devi.
Establishment Of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary
Binsar was the summer capital of the Chand Kings who ruled over Kumaon region for a long time. However, the sanctuary was established for the conservation and protection of shrinking broad leaf oak forests of the central Himalayan region.
There are about 200 birds species which you will find there in the sanctuary and it is also famous for its rich and famous flora and fauna. Binsar is also famous for sunset and sunrise views.
Stay In Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary
A Binsar Tourist Rest House which is from Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam is located around 10 km inside of Binsar Forest near zero points. You can stay here as it is made only for the tourists coming here to visit the place.
Binsar Tourist rest house provides a meal but as per the government rules, non-veg meals are not allowed inside the area.
The most important thing with the rest house is that electricity supply is only available for 3 hrs from 6 pm to 9 pm. However, the walls are fitted with candle stand so that you can feel the experience of candlelight in the night.

How To Reach Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary is well connected by roads from the nearest major city Almora which is around 33 Kms and the other major city Nainital which is around 90 Kms.
If you are coming from Delhi then it will 410km approx. by road. If you are coming from any other part of India then the nearest railway station is Kathgodam which is around 120 km from the sanctuary.
The nearest airport is Pantnagar which is 157Kms from the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. All the ways are available to come but the direct connectivity is by roads only.
Weather and Climate OF Binsar
Binsar receives snowfall in the winter and the temperature remains cool and pleasant in the summer as well.
The min. and max. the temperature in summer varies from 15 degrees to 30 degrees however in winters the min. and max. temperature varies from 0 degrees to 20 degrees.
